With over 17 years of experience in municipal law enforcement, I have dedicated my career to training and developing the next generation of police officers. I currently serve as the Field Training Coordinator for a large agency, overseeing the field training program across four training sites. In this role, I coordinate more than 80 Field Training Officers and an average of 30 trainees, ensuring high-quality training and consistent competency-based performance evaluations.
My expertise in field training is backed by Virginia DCJS certifications as a Field Training Officer, General Instructor, Firearms Instructor. I am also an American Heart Association Basic Life Saving Instructor, further contributing to officer safety and preparedness. Additionally, my background includes specialized training as a Designated Marksman and Mobile Tactics Officer.
During my 15 years in patrol, I spent four years with the Oceanfront Community-Oriented Policing Squad, engaging in proactive, problem-solving strategies to enhance public safety. Recognizing the need for modernized training, I spearheaded the development of a new field training program structure, the first significant revision since 2006. This program leverages unique competency modeling and data analysis to monitor trainee progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure a more effective and adaptive training process.
Throughout my career, I have been recognized for my dedication to public service, receiving three Life Saving Awards, a Department Special Commendation, and a Unit Citation. My passion for officer development and training innovation continues to drive improvements in law enforcement training methodologies, ensuring that new officers are prepared to meet the challenges of modern policing.
